Weymouth Seafood Festival...
Weymouth Seafood Festival is as much a festival of food by the sea as it is a festival of all things seafood.
This annual gathering of food producers, chefs and traders on the picturesque quay-side at Weymouth is a great chance for gourmands, “foodies” and the hoi polloi to dip into a host of ingredients and food traditions from across the world. Weymouth is an active fishing port and, not surprisingly, local fish, crab, lobster and other shellfish are a key ingredient in the heady mix that makes this event a joy to visit and an olfactory and literal feast. There’s masses to smell, taste and enjoy. This event is a shop window not only for the local fishing industry, but also for the chefs and restaurants who use its produce. This means that the outputs of the Seafood Festival itself are as diverse as the businesses and individuals who are part of it. You will find stalls selling the raw, fresh-caught ingredients through to simple fish and chips and the finest of fine, if alfresco, dining. There is quite simply something for everyone, from those who like to eat food to those who like to prepare it. And those simply looking for a tasty snack or beverage. The Festival can be enjoyed on many levels, simply wander around and smell the foods, enjoying the spectacle and aromas. Or learn from one of the many demonstrations about how to get the best from Seafood and other ingredients. Buy and eat on the site, or take home some ingredients, some newly learned recipes and skills, even some brand new utensils and get cracking making the best of what the sea that surrounds us has to offer. And if the weather is good, if nothing else, you’ll be able to enjoy the wonderful location right next to the beach and the sea! For details of this year’s event, visit www.dorsetseafood.co.uk . |
