If camping under canvas isn’t your thing and you don’t have a touring caravan of your own, you can still enjoy “camping” of sorts.

Static caravan parks offer comfortable and affordable holiday accommodation throughout Dorset in a variety of shapes and sizes and on a variety of different types of parks.

Static caravans tend to range in size from six- to eight-berths and offer a pocket-sized version of all the comforts of home.   In that sense they do not provide the same feeling of getting back to nature that “proper” camping does.  But, if you have a very  young family or elderly relatives or if you’re just wedded to your curling tongs or hair straighteners, they may be worth a try.

Of course for those with a delicate disposition, static caravans also provide a more acceptable and cosy alternative to life under canvas in the winter, when many, but not all, of the more beautiful camping parks are closed to tents or the ground or weather conditions are not ideal for life in tents.

Location-wise, you could be looking at anything from a single static caravan located on its own, to large sites laid out much like modern housing estates.  You will also find parks and static caravans in a range of locations from the truly urban to the exquisitely rural.

Some operators, to counteract the at times dated image of static caravans, have taken the  concept one stage further and switched their parks to lodges and other types of accommodation - these can be particularly effective in rural locations.  And some are truly stunning.

Oh, and don’t forget parks homes.  Some of which you can even buy to live in and offer a real sense of affordable luxury!
